The second Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Health Cooperation Conference closed its curtains on February 26 in Shenzhen with fruitful results. As the host city for the conference's first session, Huizhou is ever more committed to pushing forward the development of its healthcare industry.

According to officials from the Municipal Health Bureau, with the support of the Greater Bay Area, Huizhou will vigorously develop the healthcare industry with traditional Chinese medicine as the mainstay, striving to build Huizhou into Guangdong's traditional Chinese medicine innovation and demonstration city and a comprehensive reform pilot zone of TCM. Leveraging on its healthcare industry, Huizhou will facilitate the integrated development of healthcare+ tourism, sports, culture, agriculture and forestry sectors, aiming to build a world-class healthcare base that meets the diverse needs of the market, provide comprehensive and high-quality healthcare and nursing services to people from HK, Macao and PRD cities, upgrade the health service industrial chain and foster new economic growth points.

To Continuously Promote the Implementation of Cooperation Projects

As the host city for the first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Health Cooperation Conference, Huizhou and the two SARs have established a good cooperation foundation in the medical and healthcare sectors.

During last year's conference, the Health Commission of Guangdong Province, Food and Health Bureau of HKSAR and the Health Service Bureau of Macao signed the Framework Agreement on Hygiene and Health Cooperation of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, covering 27 cooperation projects. Huizhou was the prefecture-level city with the most projects signed, as the city inked 11 cooperation deals with medical institutions from Hong Kong and Macao, accounting for 41% of the total.

Officials from the Municipal Health Bureau said that the signing of the cooperation projects has dramatically facilitated the in-depth collaboration in the medical care sector between Huizhou, Hong Kong, and Macao. In the coming future, the city will introduce advanced operation models and professional teams from the two SARs. Through drawing on each other's strength, sharing of resources and information, Huizhou will develop a number of high-quality health industrial bases to provide diversified and personalized medical services to the public. The officials added that "Huizhou and the two SARs should give full play to their advantages in resources, talents as well as technology, and further promote cooperation and exchange in the fields of air-land medical rescue, non-emergency medical transfer, TCM and mental health."

To Facilitate Cooperation in Hygiene and Health between Huizhou, HK and Macao

Over the years, Huizhou has organized several field trips in the Greater Bay Area, attaching importance to strengthening exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao in the field of health care.

Last year, the city hosted different themed health training seminars, offering the platforms and opportunities for medical experts from Hong Kong and Huizhou to exchange ideas and share healthcare information on a regular basis.

According to officials from the Municipal Health Bureau, Huizhou will promote the medical training platform with Hong Kong and Macao to nurture hospital managerial personnel, general medical practitioner, nursing staff and pioneering researchers in key medical disciplines. Huizhou should learn from the advanced experience from the two SARs in the aspects of management mode, technical level and service quality. In the future, the city will encourage academic exchanges between doctors from Huizhou and the SARs, allow doctors from the SARs to carry out short-term practice locally and step up training for medical staffs, so as to improve the medical treatment and service levels in Huizhou.

To Establish Comprehensive Medical Emergency Service System

To provide high-quality medical and health care services, Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao will continue to strengthen cooperation in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases and perfect the responding mechanism for public health emergencies. The three places will upgrade communication and sharing channels for infectious disease prevention and control, push forward

technological cooperation in fighting epidemics, and continue to host the Tripartite Meeting on Infectious Diseases annually.

Huizhou also set up an air-land medical emergency service system to facilitate cross-region emergency medical transfer and treatment, so that Hong Kong and Macao residents can receive timely treatment in Guangdong.

Huizhou, HK and Macao has signed a cooperation agreement to establish a comprehensive emergency medical service system during the first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Health Cooperation Conference. The city will seize the opportunity to explore more possibilities in medical transfer between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, conduct more first aid and medical rescue training and drills, to provide fast medical treatment for patients in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
